Sites
A physical site of the Velocity Interoperability Network is any building or room in which a member organization houses equipment connected to the Network. Every site is registered with the Environment Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network and is assessed against the resilience standards below on registration and at intervals of no more than three years thereafter.
Power
- Two independent supplies, or one supply and a standby generator with fuel for 48 hours of full load.
- Uninterruptible power for all Network equipment sufficient to carry the load until the standby supply is running.
- A full-load test of the standby supply at least once each quarter, recorded and reported to the Department.
Cooling
- Cooling capacity sufficient to hold equipment rooms within the operating range of the equipment installed, with one unit in reserve.
- Temperature and humidity monitored continuously, with alarms raised to staff on site or on call.
- Cooling plant connected to the standby power supply.
Flood
- Equipment rooms sited above the level of the highest recorded flood at the site, or protected by barriers rated to that level.
- No water-carrying pipework routed through or above equipment rooms unless fitted with leak detection.
- A documented plan for the orderly shutdown and removal of equipment if flooding is forecast.
Fire
- Automatic fire detection in every equipment room, with the alarm relayed to a monitored point.
- A suppression system suitable for use around live electrical equipment.
- Fire-resisting construction between equipment rooms and the remainder of the building.
- An evacuation and recovery plan tested at least once each year.
