Press Release
Emissions Monitoring Network Transferred to the Department
Monitoring Office

On its establishment the Environment Department has taken over the operation of six monitoring stations at physical sites of the Velocity Interoperability Network. The stations were installed by member organisations to record electricity consumption, generator running and the condition of cooling plant, and pass to the Department under a single operating standard.
A further six stations are to be commissioned. Three are in commissioning at present and three are planned, bringing the initial monitoring network to twelve stations across data halls, exchanges, transmission sites and offices with equipment rooms. Readings are taken at intervals of fifteen or thirty minutes depending on the class of site.
The Department has also published the emission factors to be used in Network reporting, including a standard factor of 0.21 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent per kilowatt-hour of grid electricity for 2026. The factors will be revised each year.
Details of the monitoring network, the parameters each station records and the factors are published under Emissions and monitoring on environment.gov.vin.
